The world of dance has many benefits for a young child or even an adult. It doesn’t matter if you choose ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop or even acro. I have put together a list of my favorites. Check them out!
1. Understanding of Friendship and Teamwork
Taking a dance class helps kids that are shy or more introverted make lifelong friendships, and helps all children understand the importance of teamwork.
2. Improved Focus, Concentration, and Memory Skills
As someone with A.D.D., I can say that dance has a huge impact on all of these. For me, recalling past dances is still hard, but my focus and concentration are greatly improved. Dance gives your brain a great workout!
3. Increased Musicality and Rhythm
If you take a dance class you could still end up with two left feet. But you will definitely be able to find the beat and keep it! Whether or not you look good dancing, well, that is all up to you and those feet!
4. Increased Flexibility and Strength
Dancers stretch, stretch and stretch some more. And better flexibility, of course, comes with that. Look up any dancer, female or male, and the strength in a dancers body is truly amazing.
5. Develops Accountability Skills
Dancers need to practice, work and give it their all 100% of the time. As a dancer, your teacher, team/class and even yourself are counting on you. Accountability at its finest.
6. Better Listening Skills
If you want your child to have better listening skills, have them take a dance class. It will only take one time for them to be the only one who doesn’t know what the step is for them to pay attention and listen. As far as getting them to listen about other things, that I can’t promise! 🙂
7. Increased Self Confidence and Body Awareness
Dance is great for building self-esteem and confidence. From learning a new or difficult step to overcoming the fear some have of performing or being in front of a lot of people. Plus, dance makes you very aware of your body, which helps to become a happier and healthier you. when your body is happy, your mind is happy. And vice versa.
8. Improved Determination and Perseverance
Never give up! Never surrender! That is a dancer’s motto. They just don’t know how to give up, give in or even quit.
9. Improved Mental Health
Right back to number 7. Plus, many studies have been done that prove that dance is a huge benefit for someone with depression and anxiety. Dance is so good for the mind, body, and soul!
10. Having Fun!
This really is a no-brainer! When you dance, you have fun! Plain and simple!
I hope that this list inspires anyone who is thinking about taking a dance class to do so. There are so many more benefits of dance than the ones listed here. These just happen to be my favorite ones.
